Custom orders
Let's make it together
Custom work is my favorite part of what I do. If you have a keepsake in mind, a gift to personalize, or an idea you can't find anywhere else, tell me about it and we'll make it real.
A few things people ask me to make: embroidered Bible covers, “MAMA” sweatshirts sewn from a baby's outgrown clothes, quilted floral totes, and monogrammed, personalized keepsakes for new moms, teachers, and anyone hard to shop for.
How it works
Three steps, no surprises
- Step 1
Tell me your idea
Send a message with what you're picturing: the piece, the occasion, any names, dates, or colors. Photos help if you're sending clothes or matching something.
- Step 2
We work out the details
I'll follow up with questions, a price, and a timeline before anything is made, so there are no surprises. If you're sending materials like baby clothes, I'll tell you where to mail them.
- Step 3
I make it and ship it
Once we've confirmed everything, I make your piece and ship it from Connecticut. I'll keep you posted along the way.
What I'll need from you
A few details to start
- What you'd like made, and roughly when you need it.
- Any names, dates, or wording to include, spelled exactly how you want them.
- Colors or a photo for reference, if it matters to you.
- For keepsake pieces: the clothes or fabric you'd like me to use.
Common questions
Before you send your idea
Can you sew something from clothes I already own?
Yes, and it's some of my favorite work. A baby's outgrown clothes can become a keepsake sweatshirt, and a worn quilt top can become a tote. Send photos of the pieces along with your idea, and once we've worked out the details I'll tell you where to mail them.
What kinds of pieces do people ask for?
Embroidered Bible covers, “MAMA” sweatshirts sewn from a baby's outgrown clothes, quilted floral totes, and monogrammed, personalized keepsakes for new moms, teachers, and anyone hard to shop for. If you have something else in mind, just ask. Custom work is where I do my best sewing.
How much does a custom order cost, and how long does it take?
Both depend on the piece, so I quote each one individually. After you send your idea I'll follow up with questions, a price and a timeline before anything is made, so there are no surprises. Custom work is usually sewn and sent within one to two weeks; keepsake pieces can take a little longer, and I'll tell you if yours will. Pieces already in the shop are made and waiting, so they ship as soon as I can pack them.
Who makes my custom piece?
I do. I'm LaDonna, and I sew everything for The Petal & Threads myself, one piece at a time, here in Connecticut. Your order is made after it comes in, then shipped from Connecticut with tracking.
